China Photo and Video Fixer

Shoot In China provides photo and video fixer support for international teams working in China. Based in Shanghai since 2012, we help photographers, filmmakers, agencies and brands develop the local arrangements behind a shoot, from early location research to coordination on the day.

Photography and filming often share locations and contributors, but use their time differently. Our fixer follows both parts of the production, speaking with local contacts and keeping the practical arrangements connected to the images the client needs.

Finding Places That Fit the Images

We research locations against the creative references, then make enquiries about access and how photography or filming could work there. Scouting brings back useful details as well as pictures: the space, working hours, access routes and the people who manage it.

A proposed scene may need permission from an owner, venue or another relevant party. We discuss the specific activity with local contacts and explain any limitations to the production team. A striking location reference is the beginning of that work, rather than a guarantee that the shoot can happen there.

People and Time on a Combined Shoot

Our producers can coordinate contributors, talent, transport and the daily schedule. When the same person is being photographed and filmed, we work with the creative team on how those sessions fit together.

An interview may need quiet and a sustained conversation, while portraits or product stills need their own setup time. A local fixer can keep the contributor and venue staff informed as departments move between those arrangements, reducing the amount of coordination left to the visiting creatives.

Local Crew and Communication

We arrange local photographers, camera crew, assistants, lighting and sound personnel according to the assignment. Equipment and local transport are coordinated with the people who will use them.

Bilingual production support carries creative references and questions between the client, crew and Chinese-speaking contributors. We discuss language needs for the specific location and people, keeping the meaning of the production clear throughout preparation and filming.

Following the Project Beyond One Location

Our network supports shoots in other Chinese cities when a campaign or story moves beyond Shanghai. We coordinate the local contacts around the same project, while allowing for differences between locations and schedules.

After the shoot, we can help with the footage and photograph handoff, subtitles, editing or retouching where included in the production. The client has a local contact who stays familiar with the people, the work and the material being delivered. Email: [email protected].
