4 Tips for Hiring a Video Production Company

Choosing a video production company starts with the brief, relevant work and a clear production scope. These four points reflect the questions we discuss with clients planning corporate videos, interviews and commercial shoots in China.

1. Review Complete Films as Well as the Showreel

A showreel gives a quick sense of visual style, but complete projects show how interviews, sound, editing and the message work together. Ask for examples close to your format: a company profile, product demonstration, event film or documentary interview.

Confirm what the company handled on each reference project. Filming support, editing and a complete production are different responsibilities.

2. Ask for Relevant Work and Clarify the Team

Recent and relevant examples help establish whether the approach fits your brief. Some projects cannot be shared publicly, so ask what references can be shown with the client’s permission.

Discuss the producer, director, camera and sound roles needed for your project. For an international shoot, confirm who communicates with the client and local crew, and whether interpretation is included.

3. Compare Quotes Using the Same Brief

Provide each company with the audience, message, filming dates, locations, references and expected outputs. Without a shared scope, two quotes may describe different amounts of preparation, filming or editing.

Check crew roles, equipment, travel, location costs, filming hours, post-production, language versions and review rounds. Ask how extra shoot days or changes to the edit would be quoted.

4. Agree the Deliverables and Working Process

Choose the team whose relevant work, proposal and scope fit the project. Price alone does not explain what will be delivered, and a higher price is not by itself proof of a better fit.

Before booking, agree the schedule, approval contacts, payment terms, deliverables, usage requirements and media handover. A written scope helps both sides understand their responsibilities.
