China Video Production Fixer
A China video production fixer is often the person connecting an overseas filmmaker with everyone needed for a local shoot. At Shoot In China, our fixers and bilingual producers work with contributors, locations, crew and suppliers so an international team can develop the story and film it here.
We have supported productions since 2012, with our company based in Shanghai and a network across China. Some assignments start with a clear location and interview list. Others begin with a subject and a few leads, where the first work is finding people to speak to and understanding what filming is possible.
From Research to a Workable Filming Day
Our fixers help with research, contributor approaches, scouting and conversations about access. A director may need an interview in a workplace, a particular kind of interior or a sequence that follows someone through their day. We look into the local arrangements behind those scenes.
The work includes explaining the production to the people involved and bringing their questions back to the filmmaker. Where access or permissions depend on the venue and activity, we make the relevant enquiries and discuss the available options. An introduction or application is not treated as a guarantee of approval.
Keeping the Director and Local Team Connected
On set, bilingual support goes beyond repeating a question in another language. Our team helps a contributor understand the purpose of an interview and carries the meaning of the response back to the director. Creative references and changes to a scene also need to be understood by the people filming it.
That same communication connects the camera crew with venue staff, drivers, talent and suppliers. When a location contact changes the timing or an interview moves, the fixer can handle the local conversation and keep the production informed.
The Practical Work Around the Camera
We coordinate local crew, equipment, transport and accommodation, with casting and talent support where the film calls for it. Some clients bring their own camera department; others need us to arrange the full local unit. We work around the roles already in place.
Our producers connect the schedule with real locations and travel. A compact documentary team has different requirements from a commercial with several departments, and our involvement can follow either. For remote productions, an on-site producer can also carry feedback between an overseas client and the crew.
Shanghai and the Next Stop
Our production network includes Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Xi’an, Hangzhou and Nanjing, alongside our Shanghai base. We coordinate the next location with the same understanding of the project, rather than treating every city as a separate assignment.
Support can continue through media organisation, transfer, proxies, translation and subtitles for the client’s post-production team. We can also arrange editing and other post-production work when required.
