Grassland Filming Locations in China
Grassland filming locations in China range from rolling mountain pasture to broad northern plains and river meadows. These six areas provide references for lifestyle commercials, milk and dairy advertising, outdoor brand photography and pastoral documentaries. Green summer pasture and golden autumn grass create different visual directions.
For dairy commercial filming, separate the landscape from the farm, herd and working activity. For a car commercial, select an authorised road with the required grassland backdrop. Casting, animal handlers, land access and vehicle placement should follow the scene rather than a generic grassland booking.

1. Nalati Grassland, Xinjiang
Nalati combines rolling pasture, mountain slopes and valley views. It can fit grassland lifestyle commercials, outdoor clothing photography and a dairy-advertising visual brief where green pasture and distant hills are central to the image.

Getting There. Use Yining or a confirmed regional arrival connection, then continue by road to Nalati town and the selected scenic-area entrance. Pick the valley or upland route before calculating transfer time.
Parking and Equipment Access. The operator manages self-drive routes as well as visitor transport. Confirm current vehicle admission, designated stopping places and the carry distance to the chosen meadow; grass beside a road is not an unrestricted unit base.

Season and Visual Direction. June–August for a greener pasture look and summer vegetation; September for a warmer grass palette. Match the actual grass condition to the reference images and allow for mountain weather.
Food and Crew Catering. Arrange meals with the town or overnight base. Pack water and a backup lunch for an upland route, and confirm early breakfast if the first setup needs dawn light.
Commercial Filming. For dairy commercials, agree livestock, handlers and any farm activity separately from the meadow location. For automotive filming, define the authorised road and camera setup; avoid vehicle movement across pasture.

2. Tagong Grassland, Sichuan
Tagong provides open grass, distant mountain forms and built details around the golden pagoda. It can support a highland lifestyle shoot, outdoor commercial photography or a documentary combining landscape with local life. Religious buildings are distinct locations.

Getting There. Use Kangding as the regional base and plan the road connection to Tagong. The city lists Tagong on its touring routes and a rural bus connection; check whether that service suits equipment and call times.
Parking and Equipment Access. Confirm parking and the final walk with the selected site or property. A view from a roadside stop does not establish room for vans, stands or a picture vehicle.

Season and Visual Direction. June–August for green grassland; September–October for more golden ground and autumn atmosphere. Mountain cloud can change the background rapidly, so scout alternatives at the same base.
Food and Crew Catering. Book crew meals in Tagong or the chosen overnight base. Confirm menus and hot-drink availability, with packed catering for a longer meadow setup.
Commercial Filming. Grassland commercial filming needs the landholder’s agreement, including people, props and any animals. Discuss monastery and pagoda photography separately and keep the working footprint appropriate to the chosen setting.

3. Ruoergai Grassland, Sichuan
Ruoergai, also called Zoige, offers broad meadow and wetland landscapes. It can suit grassland documentary locations and pastoral lifestyle imagery. A protected wetland boardwalk and an agreed pasture location are different production spaces.

Getting There. Choose the access route and overnight base before booking travel. Road approaches from the Chengdu or Lanzhou regions serve different itineraries; the county publishes a route via Langmusi and Huahu from the north.
Parking and Equipment Access. For managed areas such as Huahu, use the designated visitor parking and authorised onward route. Keep equipment and people on permitted surfaces; confirm any private pasture access separately.

Season and Visual Direction. June–August for green meadows and seasonal vegetation. September brings a more golden palette. Flowering, water levels and ground condition need a current scout rather than an assumption from an archive photo.
Food and Crew Catering. Use Ruoergai town or the selected base to organise hot meals and supplies. Pack lunch and water for a wetland route, and plan a waste collection point.
Commercial Filming. For a milk or dairy-commercial concept, secure a real farm, herd and handler as separate elements. Do not place animals, props or vehicles in protected wetland vegetation to imitate a pastoral scene.

4. Mulan Weichang and Saihanba, Hebei
The wider Mulan Weichang area includes grassland, forest edges and the Saihanba landscape. It can fit meadow lifestyle photography, forest-road automotive references and an autumn outdoor commercial. Choose the specific site rather than treating the whole region as one park.

Getting There. Use the Beijing or Chengde region as the arrival base, then continue by road towards Weichang and the selected Yudaokou or Saihanba approach. Allow a dedicated transfer rather than adding the location to a short city day.
Parking and Equipment Access. Confirm parking and unloading with the selected attraction or accommodation. Forest roads, reserve boundaries and visitor routes have different access conditions; a scenic road is not an automatically available car-commercial road.

Season and Visual Direction. July–August for green grass and summer woodland; September–early October for autumn colour. Foliage timing varies by site and weather, so use a current reference scout.
Food and Crew Catering. Arrange catering with the overnight base and carry a packed option between dispersed locations. Confirm food service and accommodation operation for the season before committing to a remote unit base.
Commercial Filming. A pasture, a forest track and a vehicle-driving route require separate checks. For horse or livestock scenes, arrange handlers and contributor agreements rather than assuming animals in reference photographs can be hired for the shoot.

5. Hulunbuir Grasslands, Inner Mongolia
Hulunbuir offers open horizons, grazing landscapes and river curves. It is a useful grassland location reference for lifestyle commercials, dairy-brand photography and documentaries about pastoral work. The visual brief should identify whether people, horses or only the landscape are needed.

Getting There. Use Hailar as a practical arrival hub, then select the grassland area and overnight stop. Official tourism information lists a connection from the airport and railway station towards the Morigele River scenic area.
Parking and Equipment Access. Plan a designated parking and loading point for the selected site. Avoid treating unfenced grass as public parking; confirm landholder access and use authorised tracks for vehicle movements.

Season and Visual Direction. June–August for a green pasture direction; September for more golden grass and an autumn mood. Weather and local grazing conditions determine the exact look.
Food and Crew Catering. Organise meals and supplies at the chosen town or accommodation. Discuss dietary needs before booking a pastoral dining experience, and keep packed catering available for dispersed camera positions.
Commercial Filming. For dairy commercial filming, verify the farm, animals, handler and intended activity. A green meadow can establish the location but does not prove that a particular milk brand, production process or farm is associated with it.

6. Bayanbulak Grassland, Xinjiang
Bayanbulak combines highland meadow, river bends and mountain horizons. It can suit grassland documentary filming, outdoor brand photography and an automotive landscape brief where an approved road is available. The river-view lookout is separate from a road-driving setup.

Getting There. Plan the approach through Hejing or an authorised seasonal road itinerary. Check current road notices before using the Duku Highway connection, as the route and opening conditions affect the whole production schedule.
Parking and Equipment Access. The county publishes designated self-drive parking arrangements. Confirm current entry conditions and the route to the viewpoint; do not assume vehicle admission gives permission to drive onto meadow or wetlands.

Season and Visual Direction. June–September for green summer pasture and open visitor routes, subject to conditions. A sunset river-reflection brief depends on weather, water level and access, not just the month.
Food and Crew Catering. Arrange crew meals in the town or overnight base and carry water and backup food to the viewpoint. Check fuel and charging stops for the exact route.
Commercial Filming. Agree vehicle placement, lighting and working space with the operator. For pasture or dairy imagery, animals and handlers are a separate arrangement; keep commercial setups away from protected wetland habitat.
